2022.01.18 22:13 BudsandBowls Ex invited my bf and I up to his place to share our daughters birthday. Looking for advice on gift giving etiquette.
Hey all! I'd appreciate some advice regarding birthday presents for my daughter.
Her dad and i have been split up since she was a year old. She's turning 6 this year. We had 50/50 custody until she started school. He moved to another town almost 3 hours away when we split, and it's a small town opposed to my big city. So we agreed she'd go to school there for the one on one time with teachers. So now since she's started kindergarten, I only get her thursday till Sunday every second week.
I met my boyfriend 2 years ago, and moved in with him a year ago. My daughter has her own room here, and she gets along great with him. They play minecraft, and paint 40k figures together. He also wants to get her into drumming.
That brings me to the dilemma. My daughter's dad has invited my bf and I up to his house for our daughters birthday this year (we rotate birthdays and this year's his).
I'm wondering if my bf should bring presents He bought for her himself, or if we should label everything from both of us. And also, if the presents are toys, are we supposed to leave them there at her dads? I'm not sure on the social aspect of this because we haven't done a combined birthday before, we've always celebrated separately.
Thanks in advance for all input and advice!

Mine is lotion and I don’t know why but I just feel easy every time I hear it. We don’t really say lotion here, so I first heard it on American shows and just thought it was icky.
I’m curious to hear any other uncommonly disliked words!

2022.01.18 22:13 SuperLotus97 Single Player Deckbuilding Mode? (beyond basic AI vs)
I've put in hundreds of hours into Lab of Legends/Path of Champions (even quite a bit of Saltwater Scourge). However, I've gotten sort of bored of that recently - partially just getting tired of the same regions.
I really want to make my own decks, but I'm not good enough to play against players. I've recently started playing against the AI with either decks I've made or modified versions of ones posted on Youtube.
For the past week or so it's been pretty fun playing against the AI and it's somewhat challenging unless I have a really good deck (and even then I still lose occasionally).
However, I'm still nowhere near good enough to play against players. I see the AI making tons of mistakes and it's still often a close game in spite of that. I guess I've improved somewhat if I'm noticing the AI's mistakes (and my own).
(This is a pointless rant. I know Riot has limited resources and is going to focus on expanding Path of Champions and tuning the game so that competitive play is balanced, but I wanted to get this off my chest.)

2022.01.18 22:13 SleazyClam Is psychotherapy a giant pharma scam? Why is therapy so common in America?
Over the years, I've seen countless Reddit posters say something to the effect of:
"I'm working on it with my therapist." "Get therapy now!" "We're thinking of getting therapy." "I've been working on these issues with my therapist since I was young." "Your mom needs therapy asap." "I've improved a lot since starting therapy."
Now don't get me wrong, I'm a huge advocate of mental health. I know people sometimes just need an outlet, to be heard, and another person to give them perspective on personal issues. But couldn't you do that with a close friend or a trusted family member instead?
The problem is, therapy is expensive and you're basically paying someone by the hour to listen to you, take notes and possibly prescribe medication (which never really fixes the problem to begin with but just keeps Big Pharma obscenely rich). Results are obviously not always guaranteed. I would know, because my parents did send me to a therapist (because of academic performance issues at school) when I was a teen and all I did was feed him the bullshit he wanted to hear (and got serotonin medication that I ultimately claimed I took but flushed down the toilet).
To me, it just seems like therapy is some big Big Pharma conspiracy to brainwash people into thinking they have problems they don't really have, and an excuse to profit from getting people hooked onto antidepressents. I'm sure it works for some people, but most of the time, itjust seems like a scam.
So the question I'm afraid of asking is, is therapy truly all that it is cracked out to be? The vast majority of these therapy-seeking posters seem to be American, is it as common in America as it is represented in Reddit?

2022.01.18 22:13 Soapy_Illusion_13 How do you bring back positive restaurant culture as a manager?
I've been at my restaurant for 10 years, and worked my way up to manager during most of that time. I've worked hard to cultivate a positive and inclusive workspace. As a manager, I am very hands on and approachable with my crew. I am always on the floor, and rarely ever take breaks. I'll do every job and bust my butt to help, all the while staying positive and cheerful. I try to connect with everyone on the team and give everyone praise.
Lately it seems as if our culture has taken a turn for the worse. After raising wages, we've found more adults interested in management. With more adult managers added to the team, it's been an adjustment on how they are transitioning on how we do things at our store. Some of their attitudes are very poor, and they don't follow the way we do things at our store. I get that they have management experience elsewhere, and that's valuable, but I feel as if they should be the ones to change, not us.
I'm at a weird place, because I have never had so many adults to manage before. Our store, and managers, have mostly been teenagers. If a regular employee is out of line, we just write them up and deal out the consequences. If it's a manager, we kind of let it go. Part of the reason is because we are still short staffed, and most days there are multiple managers working just to fill positions. Losing one of them means that there is 50 hours in a week that we need to cover, and probably won't find. This puts added stress on the other managers and crew.
I just don't know what to do. I don't want to be a nazi about everything, but I do want to hold people accountable. I've tried having 1 on 1 meetings with people, but nothing seems to change. I tend to give people 2nd, 3rd, and 4th chances to change, but maybe I need to be more strict. Can any of you relate to this with any situations in your restaurants? How did the management hold each other accountable while still maintaining positive culture?
